Individual Contributor · Technical Leader
Let’s Build Together
An engineer’s hands. A leader’s heart.
17 years building maintainable, scalable systems. 10 years leading the teams that build them. I thrive in the space between — deep enough to ship the hard thing myself, broad enough to grow the people who ship the next one.
Two roles, one engineer
The reason I’m the right candidate isn’t that I pick one. It’s that I move fluidly between both.
As a Leader
- 10 years growing engineers, teams, and the organizations around them.
- Bridge the gaps between product, design, QA, support, ops, marketing, finance, clients, and leadership.
- Data-driven roadmaps and processes that let teams scale themselves.
- Mentor by staying technical — leading by example, not from a distance.
As an Individual Contributor
- Top contributor on the main repository at my last four organizations.
- Architect-level depth across frontend and backend — Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, Databricks, Node.js, Elixir, React, React Native, Python, Redis, Cloudflare, Datadog, Sentry, AWS, fly.io, Netlify, nginx, Docker, and more.
- I still write the code, the tests, and the docs — so anyone can take ownership tomorrow.
The Builder
Individual Contributor
Top contributor on the main repositories at my last four organizations — I love building solutions that help people. Even in leadership roles, staying involved at the technical level is how I mentor my teams and help them grow.
I have a soft spot for productivity tooling that lets teams scale themselves.
I have witnessed Jason go above and beyond countless times, genuinely caring about the people, product, users, and company. He is also very talented technically and has produced countless side projects and proofs of concept that have grown into core services.

The Craft
Code Stewardship
My philosophy when building systems: write the code, the comments, the tests, and the PR documentation such that a junior or senior engineer who has never worked in this system could immediately take ownership and contribute.
As a mentor, Jason inspires those around him to aim high and work towards ambitious goals. He is an excellent teacher, and his commitment to sharing his knowledge and expertise has helped to shape the careers of many aspiring software engineers, including myself.
— Director, SmartRent

The Multiplier
Public Speaking, Training & Mentorship
I attend and present at local meetups, and I’m comfortable leading meetings with any audience — engineers, operations, support, leadership. A lot of the work is helping clients and staff understand how systems behave, how to navigate them, and what to do when something breaks.
With his teams, I have seen Jason mentor, teach, and grow incredible teammates and leaders. I have learned so much from Jason over the years, and I can't thank him enough for his positive influence as a guide, mentor, and friend.

The Organizer
Project Management
Wrote thousands of stories to move projects along, report bugs, and track vulnerabilities — and measured the developer experience so the team kept getting faster, not just busier.
An incredible problem solver and leader, Jason approaches each challenge with a critical balance of his own precision to detail, while listening carefully to team members and taking all needs into consideration.
— Director, SmartRent

The Record
Documentation
Contributed to hundreds of documents for Engineering, QA, Ops, Support, Product, and Marketing — plus client-facing API and how-to documentation.

The Forensics
Telemetry & Forensics
Built dozens of dashboards and monitoring/alerts to help teams maintain systems — visualizing when systems need attention and surfacing critical failures that demand immediate action.

The Process
Operations & Processes
Continually improved operational processes. One example: the evolution of loading firmware onto hubs — from manual, slow, and error-prone to streamlined and repeatable.

The Guardian
Security
Maintained a Bugcrowd program to promote responsible disclosure, onboarded and resolved findings from internal and external pentest audits, and personally found and fixed SQL injection, XSS, remote command execution, IDOR, improper authorization, and privilege escalation issues.
I’ve attended DEF CON, which I believe every engineer should do at least once — an eye-opening reminder of how much security matters.
